Hard to say goodbye - Expedition 11D draws to a close

This weekend saw the close of this summer's expeditions in Borneo, as Expedition 11D finally closed its doors.  Six projects were completed by 76 venturers and 34 volunteer managers, in remote and challenging locations across Sabah.    Having challenged themselves physically and mentally, the teams returned to Kota Kinabalu feeling tired, proud of their achievements, excited, sad, and a whole host of other emotions.  After a successful ten week expedition, we were delighted to mark the occasion.

Thanks to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Sabah, firm supporters of Raleigh's efforts in Borneo, we celebrated the end of Expedition 11D with a formal ceremony, showcasing traditional music and dancing.

Spectactular to watch, there was also the chance to test the skill and agility of the audience.

We were delighted to be joined by Datuk Susannah Liaw, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sabah, and share her thoughts on the achievements of this expedition and allow us to express our gratitude for the Ministry's ongoing support.

The evening was a great opportunity for Raleigh and the Ministry to celebrate the mutual aims, and for all participants to celebrate, and reflect on all that they had achieved over the past ten weeks.

All too soon it was time to say goodbye.  There were hugs and tears...

.... before the volunteer managers formed a guard of honour to lead the venturers to the buses waiting to deliver them to the airport.

And thus Expedition 11D came to a close.  Congratulations to all who took part.  Goodbye and good luck!
