Allocation Time is Here Again....

We at Field Base can hardly believe the second phase of Expedition 11B is nearly at an end - it really is true what they say about time flying when you're having fun!

To whet your appetites while we are away at Base Camp, and because we're conscious that we've mainly been updating you on the static sites on this blog, we thought we'd post a few pictures of the trekkers/divers from phase one, as well as a few recent pictures of the current trek-dive-trek group that Helen managed to catch on her trip to Dive Island. Enjoy!

We'll be back to reveal the third and final (sob!) phase allocations very soon....

Hoi Lieverd,

Alexandra

message for Jenny Kohnhorst:

Hi Jen, we got your letter and Mummy has relayed your phone call. It was really nice to hear from you, particularly after we got cut off so abruptly and just at the wrong moment! I have booked you into the Step-In Lodge from 10 April to 13 April, in an air conditioned female dorm. Hope that is Ok as I have confirmed to them. They have my email and your new mobile number. I don't know what time you are getting there but I guessed it would be around 11AM. Let me know if I need to change any of that. I am also working on getting a refund on your cancelled flight from the airline because your travel insurance only covers flights to and from the UK apparently. Typical insurance company, quite happy to take your premiums but nowhere to be seen when you need to make a claim! In any event we should get the money back from Jetstar Asia. I'll let you know how I get on but will send you some cash if you run short.
Mummy also said that Op Ral would be in touch about your diving, if you need your PADI number it is: 0511U95800 and you have been diving since 2005 and have done approximately 25 dives. If that is not what they need I will hear from them.
I had a look at the photos from the diving teams on the blog and had a look on some dive sites on the web. It looks AMAZING! I am very jealous!.
It sounds like you are working very hard. I hope you are enjoyimg it too. The photos of your camp site are fantastic. Borneo is definitely on my to do list.

Everything is well here, Oma and Opa have been over to help Diekes move into his new house. He is now in Northwood, about 15 mins away. He had SOOOO many boxes of stuff, but you know how Oma loves to clean and tidy up!
They all send their love, I am trying to get them to go on the blog and leave you a message but they are a bit wary. They are on the train back to Maastricht today (Thursday).
Everyone is well at home, Meg is starting to think about her GCSE more seriously and about her move to Dauntsey's and Charlie is missing you. Mummy has been travelling down to Cornwall regularly but we are now thinking about moving Jenny to a home in Chorleywood. That will make her life a lot more manageable.

Lots of Love from all of us. Have a great time
Daddy

Hidde - Alpha 5
Hier gaat alles goed.
Hopelijk spreken we elkaar binnenkort weer even via de telefoon.
Heel veel liefs en een stevig omhelzing,
Pappa

Ik heb me echt slap gelachen! Jouw hoofd was zoo grappig vroeger! We gaan zulke leuke dingen doen! For James Astbury

Hope you've now received my first letter with the NW card; sent another last week with PO card, so probably won't be with you till April. If you could let me know in some way whether either have arrived - just a text would do, to save the phone bill.

Have been kept updated via the blog, saw some new photos of Alpha 6 and a couple more from phase 1. Still haven't seen a different coloured T shirt in any of them.

Good you managed to have 'pancakes' - so did we. Said Happy Birthday to Dad yesterday for you.

Looking forward with interest to seeing your next allocation, just hope I'm in time for you to get this at changeover (?Friday).

Will carry on updating everyone who asks after you; enjoy the last phase ...
lots of love, Mum + Dad, Lis , Ali

Jeetje, Project 2 is alweer klaar! Heerlijk!
Geniet daar en pas goed op jezelf. Dikke zoen, Soof

Hi Ria
I thought I would blog you (if that's the correct term) before I disappear to the French Alps with Leo for a week. I hope everything continues to go well and that you are still having a great time, if not an exhausting one! We recently received you letter and it was good to hear what you've been up to. Nothing much changes here. The garden has turned in to Spring so I am keeping very busy. You will be pleased to hear I've got round to booking your car in for a service so it should be all shiny and clean for you return. Nanny is getting very excited about our golf trip to Portugal and she seems intent on taking you to Madrid. I said that by the sounds of it you would much prefer to be digging up her drive and occassionally popping in to the local chinese takeaway, but she is insisting otherwise! Anyhow unlike your mum I cant write page after page so its goodbye from me. Looking forward to seeing you in April. Take care. Much love Dad. xx

Also, I have been really brave since you've gone and actually been to combat and rpm by myself - check me out! O, and I went paintballing! I'm facing all my fears, haha :)
Hope you are okay and enjoying every minute... Although I would quite like you home soon cause I MISS YOU! Girlie dinners aren't the same without you and your wise and rational opinions!

Hi Simon. Sorry I missed your phone call on Friday. Dad has passed on all your news, and it sounds like you're having a fantastic time. It must had been wonderful diving, especially after the hard slog of the trek. Hope the drumming went well on the changeover sketch! We've been to London this weekend, partly for my Christmas present (the lunch at the Tate Modern restaurant that Dad promised me - got a window seat, with fantastic view over the river and St Pauls, from the 7th floor. And the food was great). We also met up with Gavin and went to see a film, and took him out for Sunday lunch today. So on diets this week! Hope Phase 3 goes well. Let us know if you need us to change your flights, if you have trouble doing it from there. Looking forward to the next blog, so we can see what you're up to.

Hellooooooo. It's Marisa!! I'm so sorry I haven't written on here yet but I only found out about the website today from your mum. Me and Helly have spent the weekend together and we rung your mum today to see how you've been.

Me and Helly have been sending you letters every week, I hope you've been getting them. Your mum said there was some trouble receiving them but hopefully you've got them all by now.

I've looked through all the blogs and found some photos of you! It looks incredible & you look great.. I'm soso jealous. I bet you're having the time of your life.

Your mum said you want to bring a chicken home.. Oh Hannah! Why does that not surprise me! It's like my mum wanting to have chickens in our garden. Hahahah remember??!

I miss you SO much it's unbelievable. I can't wait to hear from you because it's killing me not knowing anything about your life. Reading these blogs has been great as I have an insight into what you're up to.

Love you lots and lots and jelly tots. Stay Happy and speak soon. <3 Marisa aka Moris. <3

PS. Now I know about this blog. I'm most definitely going to leave little messages for you all the time...You're gonna hate me haha! oh and sorry for the essay! lol xxxxxxxx

Hi Sam,
Your letter arrived and it appears that you're enjoying the experience. Sounds like it's all that they said on the tin. Are you hoping to 'go native' and extend your stay? Your mum was very happy to receive it. She has tried to send you a message but the intricacies of the blog posting process have defeated her. She sends her love. We hope you're getting the messages when you arrive at the various camps.
Daniel sends his love and is worried about swollen lymph glands in his groin, not unusual to have swollen glands when you've just got over a throat infection... not one to panic, your brother. He appeared at the Olivier awards and was looking forward to performing 'on the tele' but they put him on the back row so he didn't get much exposure. They put all of the ugly ones at the back! Still, the choreographer and Director said they'd give him a job in the West End Chicago tomorrow if he was free. Of course, money is no object so he told them that he would finish ArtsEd first :-0. I wish he'd talk to me first; I'd sell him to the highest bidder!
Hope you manage to celebrate your birthday tomorrow (today Borneo time) in a civilised bar (ish) if the schedule times out for R&R at base station. I bet you could use a beer after scrambling through the undergrowth for a week. The hot weather is returning here and even the seventy-seven shades of sh... they call beer here is beginning to look attractive. Although in more lucid moments I manage to resist. Much better to sample quality kit in blighty after an abstinence. I'm home a week earlier than first envisaged 'cos I forgot about Easter; it's pointless cooling my heels here on a shutdown so I'll up sticks and head home early. I'm in Nuremberg for next week and I was thinking of bunking off to the UK but John & Yasser are joining us and might think it's taking the Mick considering I've had 2 months off already this year; politic to head back to Cairo methinks. It's costing me a fortune re-arranging flights; 142GBP to change flight through UK call centre and 18 GBP to do the same through Egypt office. Scandalous, we need to take a leaf out of the Arab's book; a slight rise in bread price and the Governments are toppling like skittles.
Your mum mucked out your room so you won't be able to find anything and the 2 year old pizza you was saving under the bed was taken away by a man in a bio-suit. Apparently the state of emergency lockdown on Iona has been lifted although they're still analysing the alien lifeform mutation. Porton Down have an OP at the bottom of the garden.
It's all kicked off in Libya; there's some serious ordnance deployed offshore. The Eggy's are concerned because 1/2 million unemployed Egyptians came back last month and now 200,000 Libyans are following them. The Army Council worries that the rise in unemployed ex-Libyans will kick-off another round of brick-heaving in Tahrir Sq. Good old BBC has kept everybody updated showing footage of " another sortie by RAF Tornados" pity the plane was a Typhoon but in journo circles a plane's a plane, no need for accuracy, just gets in the way of a good story.
Just got time to brew the boys in the M1 Abrams outside, a Horlicks before curfew and some shuteye.
Toodle-oo and enjoy the remaining weeks in paradise.

hi Mathieu in alpha 8,

spannend.
Daaaaag,kusjes mama

Hi Lorne,
wrote you a blog on March 19th but I don't see it posted - so must not have clicked all the right buttons! Am sending you a letter today and dad posted one on Saturday. Hope your diving went well and that you had plenty of time to top up the tan.
Are you digging long drops now or mixing cement for the water feed system? Did you fess up that you are an expert hole digger and cement mixer?
We love your letters and talk about you all the time. I think we're starting to bore all our friends with tales of your adventures! Not really: everyone is very interested to hear how you are doing. Carolyn wrote you a letter and Taylor and Henry might post a blog.
Let us know what your plans are after Raleigh and don't forget to change air line tickets in advance if you need to.
Lots of love, miss you, Mom

Hi Kitty,(Alpha 8, somewhere in the jungle!)
Sounds like you're right in the thick of it with all the creepy crawlies. There will be no excuses for freaking out about little house spiders when you get back home.
We've had a recce to Leeds and got mistaken for mature students! I wish! Everyone was really friendly and the halls look great. We latched on to someone else's kid when we went round so that we didn't look suspicious. You're going to have a fab time there I'm sure.
You're into the home straight now so your undies and socks only need to limp on for another couple of weeks.
Bet you can't wait to do the diving.Your group order couldn't have been better finishing on a real high. Dad'll have to do his advanced course now or you'll put him to shame in Jamaica.
Have a wonderful time and enjoy every minute (don't forget Barry White Records Are Fab,Sorted and Stela)
Looking forward to seeing you soon (Mum's already planning the roast dinner!)
Be safe.
Love Mum,Dad,Charlie,Jessie,Hugs,Roly,
